Rock Your Baby: So you love kid’s clothes and you love shopping online! Shopping is the best; dragging the kids with you…not so much. It takes about 40 mins just to leave the house!
By then you could’ve had your order completed, washed a load of laundry, breakfast dishes washed and dried; all while Peppa Pig is discussing the importance of wearing boots when jumping in muddy puddles.
But online shopping can be tricky sometime. You love Rock Your Baby, but you are unsure about the sizing.Or they have a new style this season that you absolutely must have! But your daughter is tall and skinny so you are not sure if it will look good on her, or not.
My girls need bathers this Summer. But I am worried about sun protection. Are Rock Your Baby Bathers SunSmart? Do they wash well? What is the sizing like? No one likes too tight swimmers or a saggy bum!
You can’t drag the kids to the shops either.
You have done that; and still have the scars to prove it! 😉
That is why we have created this handy Rock Your Baby Guide. Not only does it compare how the different styles differ from each other. But we have also compared it to other popular brands to give you an idea of what to expect sizing wise.
Here we share our 9 most popular Rock Your Baby clothing styles, and we guide you through each style and how it compares to each other.
We break it down by fabric composition, the general style and fit of the garment, how it compares to similar Rock Your Baby styles. And how it compares to Minti, Paper Wings, Munster Kids or Missie Munster for girls.
So, without further ado…
(let’s do this!) if you can’t wait to scroll down for the full details below, here is a summary of our top Rock Your Baby styles – click on your favourite for more info!
One of the most popular Rock Your Baby dress styles and is available in a variety of prints each season. It comes in a full bodice, (high back and front) with a full twirling skirt. A sweet matching or contrasting ribbing around the neck and sometimes around the hem of the sleeves. This dress is available as a short sleeve dress in Summer and a long sleeve dress in Winter.
Made from 95% Cotton and 5% Elastane. A popular fabric composition for Rock Your Baby where the fabric is soft and breathable but also a little bit stretchy to give it a better fit.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Purple Haze Waisted Dress with the Minti Daisies and Other Things Dress in Muted Green. The Rock Your Baby Waisted Dress was half a cm shorted and 1 cm narrower in the waist.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Swan Castle Waisted Dress with the Rock Your Baby Unicorn Dreams Mabel Dress in the same size. They were both the same length. The Waisted Dress has shorter sleeves than the Mabel Dress and the Waisted dress is 1 cm wider in the waist.
Another very popular Rock Your Baby dress style for girls. This style is available during Summer and Winter months in a variety of prints. It has a leotard style bodice with a low back, short fitted sleeves and full skirt.
Made from 95% Cotton and 5% Elastane. A popular fabric composition for Rock Your Baby where the fabric is soft and breathable but also a little bit stretchy to give it a better fit. This dress is meant to be worn fitted. Upsizing might cause the dress to look baggy around the bodice and arms.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Unicorn Ribbons Mabel Dress with Minti Artsy Dress. The Rock Your Baby Mabel dress is the same length as the Minti Dress at the front (the Minti Artsy Dress has a dropped back hem) and 8 cm shorter than the back of the Minti dress. The Rock Your Baby Mabel dress is 6 cm narrower in the waist. The big difference in the waist measurement is due to the fact that the Rock Your Baby dress is meant to be worn fitted.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Flower Power Mabel Dress with the Rock Your Baby Jean Peter Pan Waisted Dress; they were similar in length and width. The only differences were that the Mabel dress has longer sleeves and a dropped back.
One of the classics! The Rock Your Baby Daydreamer dress has only made it appearance in a few Summers before. A special princess dress with thin straps, a silky smooth bodice with a tulle and sequin detail and a sparkly full tulle skirt. The Rock Your Baby Summer 19 season saw the return of the Daydreamer dress in black and pink. It’s made from high quality 100% Polyester, including the skirt. Not too shiny, just right. Polyester is not known for its breathability, but Rock Your Baby make it work with the thin straps and shorter style of this dress. Made to be worn on special occasions or for princesses who like to dress up no matter the occasion.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Pink Daydreamer Dress with the Rock Your Baby Purple Haze Waisted Dress. The bodice was the same width for both dresses, but Daydreamer dress was 6 cm shorter than the Waisted dress. Bear in mind that the straps are elasticated and will allow the dress to be pulled down a little bit.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Midnight Daydreamer Dress with the Paper Wings Tattoo Reboot Tutu Dress. The Daydreamer dress was 1 cm wider in the waist but 12 cm shorter in the overall length of the dress.
When it comes to Rock Your Baby shorts for girls, retro is the name of the game. Meant to be worn short with a fitted tee and a pair of rollerskates, if you can manage to skate on them. They make a great basic for Summer, and if you ever look back and do a little mental tally you will notice they were probably the most worn item for the Season. Made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane, just the right amount of stretch.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Red Farrah Jogger Shorts with the Paper Wings Chambray Shorts. They were both the same length but the Rock Your Baby Farrah Joggers were half a cm more generous in the waist.
Distinctive prints and sassy slogans! Rock Your Baby Tees have some of the most iconic prints in children’s fashion. Made to be worn fitted with a pair of Joggers or denim shorts. With a contrasting or matching ribbed hem depending on the print. Made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane. Available all year round in either a short sleeve or long sleeve tee.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Smell the Roses T-Shirt with the Minti Infinity Tee. The Rock Your Baby Smell the Roses T-Shirt is half a cm narrower in the waist, a cm shorter in the length and has shorter and narrower sleeves. Lending it a more fitted look especially around the shoulders and arms.
Annie and Islabean is a leading Rock Your Baby stockist in Australia. We may be one of the “newer” Rock Your Baby stockist but don’t let that mislead you. We know this brand like one would know their own favourite pair of shoes. We know how it fits, we know the designs and since we have been a fan of Rock Your Baby for many many many years we know and understand the history and how the brand came to be one of the most iconic children’s labels in Australia and arguably in the world.
We love it so much that we recently hosted our own photoshoot to showcase how we would style and wear Rock Your Baby clothing for boys and girls. (My six year old inner-self was green with envy!) And going by the comments of the little models on the day, they loved it just as much as we do.
Rock Your Baby has perfected their shorts styles for boys over the years. Designed with raw hems (super cool!) functional side and back pockets, and drawstring waistbands to ensure the perfect fit every time. Not to mention the little stitch details on the back pockets and an iconic Rock Your Baby logo badge. Made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane and available in a variety of base colours. They can be worn mixed-and-or matched with pretty much any Rock Your Baby tee and sturdy enough to last a couple of seasons. Cool and functional, it’s a winning recipe!
We compared the Rock Your Baby True Blue Strollin’ Shorts with the Minti Clash Shorts. The Rock Your Baby True Blue Strollin’ Shorts is half a cm more generous in the waist and half a cm longer in length.
We compared the Rock Your Baby Black Wash Smash Shorts with the Munster Kids Shark Fleece Short. The Munster Kids Shark Fleece Shorts is 1 cm wider in the waist and 1 cm longer than the Rock Your Baby Smash Shorts.
Known for their alternative prints and rock and roll vibe, Rock Your Baby T-Shirts for boys are available all year round in either a short sleeve or long sleeve version. In Summer they are designed with rolled up sleeves to give it that extra cool vibe. Made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane with a Rock Your Baby logo badge near the front left hem. Available in distinctive prints and iconic slogans that sets the wearer apart from the crowd.
Only a few Summers old, you can say swimwear is new addition to the Rock Your Baby family. Their first swimwear collection was released in 2017 and with it a bit of confusion regarding sizing. Since then they have perfected the design and their bathers are true to size, with a little room to grow. For example, if your daughter is 5 years old turning six soon a size 5 would be the better fit. But kids come in different sizes and it is always best to consult the size chart when purchasing swimwear for the first time.
Made from 85% polyester and 15% elastane in a variety of designs. Some of which have long sleeves, a more SunSmart choice for the Australian climate. Rock Your Baby often use popular design from previous seasons when designing their swimsuit collection. Sometimes even a matching print from their current main collection. Meaning you can have a matching dress and pair of bathers in your wardrobe. How cute is that!?
We compared the Rock Your Baby Jean Long Sleeve One-Piece Swimsuit with the Missie Munster Malibu One Piece Long Sleeve Swimsuit. The Rock Your Baby Swimsuit is 3 cm longer in the sleeves, 4 cm longer over all and 3.5 cm wider in the body. Per measurements you will notice the generous sizing of the Rock Your Baby Bathers. Upsizing is not recommended and may result in a too loose fit (or saggy bum!).
As with the Rock Your Baby swimwear for girls, the Rock Your Baby boardshorts for boys is one of their newer designs. Available only in the Summer months, they are designed to stand out on the beach. Often with an ocean inspired print or an abstract bold print in considerate colours. Made from 90% polyester and 10% cotton, allowing for a little stretch but still quick to dry.
Inside you will find a mesh lining for a bit of support and comfort. Designed with either a snap button or a drawstring waist with a Velcro opening at the front for easy dressing. We all know how hard wet bathers are to get off!
Supported with an elastic waistband at the back to allow a little room for growth.
Last but not the least are the cool front and back pockets. A must have quality in boardshorts when you are a 4-year-old. Where else will you hid your beach treasures for mum to find? Finished off with the iconic Rock Your Baby logo and you are beach ready to go!
We compared the Rock Your Baby Diamond Dogs Boardshorts with the Munster Kids Crackers Shorts. (Please bear in mind that the Munster Kids Crackers Shorts are meant to be worn everyday not only as swim shorts). They were both the same length but the Rock Your Baby swim shorts were 1 cm wider than the Munster Kids shorts.

Rock Your Baby garments are designed to be true to size. But what does that even mean? Well, in theory it means that if your child is 6 years of age his/her ideal fit would be a size 6. But all children (and people) have different body shapes and a tall 6-year-old might fit better in a size 7 than a size 6.
Rock Your Baby design their garments to have a more fitted look. Back in the day it resulted in almost everyone having to buy the size up or even a couple of sizes up based on how many seasons you wish for your child to wear the item.
In 2017 Rock Your Baby moved to standardised sizing and all their garments were designed slightly bigger than prior seasons. It caused a bit of confusion amongst Rock Your Baby fans, but within a season or two everyone got used to the new sizing.
They still use Standardised sizing today, so let’s take a look at what Standardised sizing mean. It means that Rock Your Baby garments are designed and manufactured according to the official Australian industry standard. Therefore, any children’s fashion label who manufactures according to the Standardised sizing will have similar if not the same sizing as Rock Your Baby.
But all garments are designed differently, since that is what makes it unique after all. So even though Rock Your Baby uses Standardised sizing there are still a few variations in sizing between the different styles.
At Annie and Islabean we aim to give you as much information as possible about each individual garment. Please read our product descriptions carefully. If we find a garment to be smaller than a similar garment from the same label, we will mention it in the product description.
And if you ever have any questions about sizing please feel free to contact us any time. We love children’s fashion and we enjoy nothing more than discussing it.
Accessories me please!
So you’ve purchased your Rock Your Baby outfit. Sweet! But what do you wear it with?
We find with Rock Your Baby, less is more. Their designs speak for themselves and if you add too many accessories it might look a little bit “crowded”.
With that in mind we do have a few shoe brands we recommend that are complementary to your Rock Your Baby outfit.
Mini Melissa shoes are one of our favourite brands of shoes to wear with Rock Your Baby Dresses. They are made from Melflex, a non-toxic PVC. They smell divine (Bubblegum scented!) and they mould to your little one’s feet from the first wear. Comfy and pretty, they are a must-have to any little girls’ wardrobe.
Rock Your Baby loves them too and even used them in some of their past campaigns. We find that each season one or two of the Mini Melissa designs perfectly match a Rock Your Baby print. It is kismet!
With your Rock Your Baby Rompers or T-Shirts and Shorts combo’s we recommend a fabulous pair of Converse. Converse are extreme versatile and can be worn with dresses and skirts too. They can be a little too hot to wear during the warmer Summer days, but they are a great shoe choice if you have a very active toddler on your hands who doesn’t mind walking long distances.
We buy all our converse from Tiptoe and Co. Not only do they have a huge variety of styles, but they have the best customer service.
A good alternative to Converse during the warmer Summer months is Saltwater Sandals. They are super comfy (we haven’t had one blister yet!), the soles mould to your feet after a few wears and they have no problems when they get wet. Beach, here we come! Available in a variety of designs and colours you can easily get carried away and buy too many pairs. When in fact you will only need one pair until our little one outgrows theirs.
